Roatan, Honduras

I recently took a scuba diving trip to Roatan, Honduras. It is a prime diving destination because of its location in the Mesoamerican Reef. This reef is the largest barrier reef in the Western Hemisphere. On this trip we saw many species of fish and coral. We also encountered other marine animals like turtles, rays, squid, and lobster.

Scuba diving is a unique hobby. I often get questions about how I got started or what it is like. As for learning to dive, I owe a lot of credit to my parents who began scuba diving together before I was alive. When I was about 12 years old, we took a family trip to Roatan. That was the first time I tried scuba diving. I was quickly captivated by the colors, creatures, and overall awe I had for the ocean. At fifty feet underwater, I felt like I was experiencing a whole new world. All of this was just beneath the surface the whole time. I got my junior PADI scuba diver certification on that trip. In 2018, I took a trip to Thailand where I got my open water certification to extend my depth limitations. It often surprises people who have never been scuba diving that this is without a doubt one of the coolest but also most intimidating things I have ever done.

Maybe these photos from my dive trip will spark your curiosity in scuba diving. Getting your certification makes for a great excuse to go somewhere tropical with your favorite people!
